Eric was minding his own business in 2014 when he discovered that his nearby coffee shop was throwing away valuable coffee grounds. He brought those grounds to a friend's horse farm, and created the first batch of EarthBrew Compost.

Around this time, he met Chinquapin Community Garden in Alexandria, Virginia, and was amazed at the work of nearly 100 residents tending tiny plots behind the local high school. Working with these gardeners, he evolved and improved the process, learning from these expert gardeners about how to manage nutrients, soil structure, and water holding capacity.

In 2025, Matt decided to join the party. After two decades working in international development, encouraging coffee and cocoa farmers make compost, he decided to walk the walk and start making compost back home.
